Dingwall Sol Jacob Umansky Signature 5-String Bass White/Black Ceruse
Based on mighty riffs from guitarist Aaron Marshall and the bass guitar manoeuvres of Jacob Umansky, Canadian progressive metal band Intervals remain among the hardest-hitting around. Designed as a mass-appeal version of Jacob Umanskyâs Custom Shop Z, the âSolâ Signature model retains a host of premium Dingwall features. Itâs not just for shredders either, with a pickup configuration that makes it far more versatile than you might think.
BODY & NECK
The alder body has a bookmatched ash top and takes its lead from Umanskyâs existing Custom Shop Z3, albeit with a modified body outline thatâs been specially shaped to his own specification. The control knobs have also been repositioned, making fast-paced slap techniques that bit easier to deliver. Oh, and the matte white/black ceruse finish is incredible.
The bolt-on neck is hard rock maple, intended to be more robust for Jacobâs rapid-fire technique. Itâs reinforced with carbon fibre, which helps keep any unwanted neck movement to a minimum. The multi-scale wenge fingerboard also keeps the bottom end tight, the top end clear, plus it helps with intonation and comfort.
PICKUPS & ELECTRONICS
With a Darkglass Electronics Tone Capsule wired to three Dingwall FDV pickups, the Jacob Umansky Signature can perform heavy rock of all eras. The switching is all very state-of-the-art, with a push/pull active passive switch, a 4-position rotary pickup selector, a 3-band active EQ and enough firepower to add serious weight to any bass riff.
Given that Intervalâs increasingly progressive sound makes all sorts of demands on Umanskyâs bass gear, his Dingwall signature model is, essentially, a masterclass in everything that is good about cutting-edge bass design. Plus it was mapped-out alongside the man himself, so youâve got that seal of approval.
HARDWARE
With a Darkglass Tone Capsule wired to three Dingwall FDV pickups, the âSolâ Signature can perform heavy rock of all eras. The switching is all state-of-the-art as well, with a push/pull active passive switch, a 4-position rotary pickup selector, a 3-band active EQ and enough firepower to add serious weight to any bass riff.
Thanks to the Graphtech nut and lightweight open-gear Hipshot tuners, youâre guaranteed maximum resonance at lower tunings and dependable stability courtesy of the Dingwall minimalist bridge, which is ideal for aspiring bassists who donât yet want to worry about spending time adjusting their intonation. Extra touches include a recessed jack socket and the easily removed magnetic plate covering the battery cavity.
âItâs more than just an instrument to me. Itâs a reflection of how I play and who I am as a musician. Each time I pick it up, whether on stage or in the studio, it pushes me to explore new ideas. The Sol has been mine for the last three years⊠and now itâs yours. I canât wait to see what you do with it.â â Jacob Umansky.
