This is not due to any headstock repair but rather just coving up wear on the edges of the headstock. The nut has been shimmed up slightly and the edges of the shim have been retouched with black. All other finish is original.

Modifications / Repairs: The guitar has several very small touch-ups on the top of the body near the controls and on the back edges of the headstock. This is not due to any headstock repair but rather just coving up wear on the edges of the headstock. The nut has been shimmed up slightly and the edges of the shim have been retouched with black. The neck volume pot has been replaced. The neck has been refretted. There is a small section of binding along the treble side of the neck at the first two frets that has been reglued. It is likely that this section of binding was accidentally dislodged during the refret and had to be reglued. Other than this small issue, the refret was done exceptionally well and made this a very fine playing instrument.
Case Details: Original Hardshell Case
Cosmetic Condition: This vintage Gibson guitar has aged well and is in good condition. The finish is glossy with checking, small dings, and light scratches. The metal hardware is lightly tarnished with age.
Tech Notes: The guitar plays well with low action and optimal neck relief. The frets are narrow and medium height with essential no play wear. The very first Les Paul Customs did not have a serial number. This guitar has no serial number and the original pots date to 1953. These facts suggest that this is a very early example of a first year Les Paul Custom. The tip of the headstock has a distributor number impressed into it which is sometimes seen on these early Les Pauls.
